Sunbelt Football Champions!

Appalachian State Mountaineers have won the Sunbelt Championship game against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 30-19!

Appalachian State University are the winners of the East Division and the University of Louisiana are the Western Division winners leading to the Inaugural Game of the Sunbelt Football Championship. ASU won the right to host the game at home thanks to a win over Georgia State on the Thanksgiving weekend break.

Despite the rain there was a great turn out by locals and I even started getting into the spirit! Below are some photos from the day:

As with any sporting game, the fun it the energy from the crowd and watching what goes on behind the scenes. Yosef, our mascot, tried crowd surfing, a few guys went shirtless in the cold to make it onto the jumbo-tron and a few App State Santa gnomes made their way around the crowd.

It was my last football game in America for now and although I have never understood what is happening on the field it has been worth going to every game I did for the cultural value, each game was different and provided a different atmosphere. As they say “When in Rome!”.
